Procedure

How to use this tool

  1. 01

Enter item and carton inside dimensions in the same unit.

  2. 02

Enter the item weight and maximum allowed contents weight per carton.

  3. 03

Enter the target item quantity to estimate full and partial cartons plus total outer cube.

Useful for

Common planning tasks

  • Master-carton planning
  • Case-pack comparisons
  • Shipment cube forecasting

Model boundary

Assumptions

  • Items and cartons are rectangular and consistently axis-aligned.
  • The carton dimensions entered are usable inside dimensions for fit.
  • Total shipment cube uses entered outside carton dimensions as an approximation.

Operational caution

Limitations

  • Partitions, padding, carton wall thickness, irregular shapes, nesting, and practical packing access are excluded.
  • Compression strength and safe gross carton weight require separate verification.

Questions and answers

Which item orientation is used?

The calculator checks all six axis-aligned orientations and uses the one with the highest grid count.

How is a partial carton counted?

Cartons required is rounded up, so the last carton may not be full.

Are carton dimensions inside or outside?

Use usable inside dimensions for fit. The cube result is only exact if those also equal the outside dimensions.
